Pier Wins Silver for Drama
at the 2008 Sonys
The company received the Silver award
for Memorials to the Missing which was commissioned for BBC Radio 4's Afternoon Play. Written by Stephen Wyatt and directed by Martin Jenkins the play tells the true story of how Fabian Ware struggled against the odds to get properly marked graves for all the soldiers killed in action during the First World War regardless of class, religion or ethnic origin. The cast was headed by Anton Lesser, Michael Maloney with Keith Drinkel, Teresa Gallagher, Ben Crowe, Sophie Roberts,
Karl Davies, and Alex Wyndham.
Pier won the Sony Gold Award for Arts Programming in 1997 for its Radio 3 series
Private View and In 2002 it won both the Silver and Bronze awards for Radio Drama.
Also in 2002 Pier received The Spoken Word Publisher’s Award for Corin Redgrave's Radio 4 series The Century Speaks published by
BBC Audio Books.
In 2007 Leprosy - A Forgotten Disease
won the award for best scripted/edited radio programme on a science subject at the ABSW Science Writers' Awards. The programme was written & presented by Chandrika Nath
and produced by Julian Mayers.
